Terms of Service
Last updated:
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Wildlife Alert, an AI wildlife detection service for your Ring cameras. By linking your Ring account and using Wildlife Alert, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully, especially the sections on the not-a-security-system disclaimer and the limitation of liability.
Service description
Wildlife Alert connects to the Ring cameras and doorbells you choose to monitor and analyzes motion snapshots with AI to detect whether an animal is present, identify the likely species, and weigh additional context to improve accuracy before alerting you. When a detection matches the species and alert levels you have selected, we deliver a push notification to the device you enabled alerts on — and, if you opt in, an email alert with the event details and a link to the recording — and add the detection to your history.
The service is informational. It is designed to tell you when wildlife is likely present on your property so you can stay informed about the animals around your home. You can optionally give feedback on a detection (a thumbs up/down, a correction, or confirming a pet); we use this only to improve the accuracy of your own future detections on that camera. We may add, change, or remove features over time to improve the service.
Eligibility
To use Wildlife Alert you must have a valid Ring account, be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction, and have the authority to connect the cameras you choose to monitor. You are responsible for keeping your Ring account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs through your linked account.
Acceptable use
You agree to use Wildlife Alert only for its intended, lawful purpose — monitoring wildlife activity on cameras you are authorized to use. When using the service, you agree that you will not:
- Use the service to monitor people, conduct surveillance of individuals, or process cameras you do not own or have permission to access.
- Use the service in any way that violates applicable laws, including privacy, recording-consent, and wildlife-protection laws in your area.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the service, its infrastructure, or other users' data.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service or its outputs without our written permission.
- Rely on the service as a safety, security, or emergency system (see the disclaimer below).
We may suspend or limit access that we reasonably believe violates these acceptable-use terms or risks harm to other users or the service.
Not a security or safety system
Wildlife Alert is an informational tool, not a security, safety, life-safety, or emergency-monitoring system. Do not rely on it to protect people, animals, or property, or to detect or prevent crime, intrusion, fire, or any other emergency.
AI detection is probabilistic and is provided on a best-effort basis. We make no guarantee that the service will detect any particular animal or event, that detections will be accurate, complete, or timely, or that alerts will always be delivered. Detection depends on factors outside our control, including your camera placement and settings, lighting and weather, motion-event delivery from Ring, network availability, and the limits of AI image analysis. False positives and missed detections will occur.
You should not use Wildlife Alert as a substitute for a monitored security service, professional wildlife management, or your own judgment and precautions. If you face an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
Billing is handled by Ring
Your Wildlife Alert subscription is sold, billed, and managed through Ring. You subscribe, pay, upgrade, downgrade, and cancel your plan directly through your Ring account. There is no separate checkout with us, and we never collect, process, or store your payment details.
- Charges, renewals, and refunds are governed by Ring's billing terms and the terms of the plan you selected through Ring, not by us.
- Plan changes and cancellations are made through your Ring account. Your access to paid features follows the subscription status Ring reports for your account.
- Taxes and currency are handled as part of Ring's billing process.
Because billing is handled by Ring, questions about a charge, renewal, or refund should be directed to Ring through your Ring account.
Neighborhood Animal-Activity Report and aggregated data
Wildlife Alert offers an optional, opt-in Neighborhood Animal-Activity Report that presents a city-level, informational summary of animal activity. Participation is off by default and you may withdraw your consent at any time. The feature is informational only and is not a public-safety, security, or neighborhood-watch system. It covers animals only and never shares Ring video, user-generated media, human-detection data, your street address, or any location more precise than the town or city. The town or city for each camera is provided by you inside Wildlife Alert (you enter a US ZIP code or type a city name and choose the matching US city, per camera); it is not obtained from Ring, and any ZIP code you enter is used only to find the city and is not stored.
If you opt in, you agree that we may sell or share aggregated, de-identified animal-trend data derived from your detections, only on the following conditions. Any data offered for sale or sharing is limited to the city-level animal species, the town/city location, and the detection timestamp, and excludes all personally identifiable information (PII), any location more precise than the city, Ring video, user-generated media, and human-detection data. Records that contain any of those excluded categories are not eligible for sale or sharing and are never included in such a data set.
Limitation of liability
The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Wildlife Alert and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, property, or any harm to people, animals, or property, arising out of or relating to your use of — or inability to use — the service, including any missed detection, false detection, undelivered alert, or service interruption.
To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service will not exceed the amount, if any, you paid for the service through Ring during the three (3) months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case these limitations apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Termination
You may stop using Wildlife Alert at any time by unlinking the app from your Ring account or uninstalling it from the Ring Appstore. When you unlink, or when Ring notifies us that the app was removed, we stop processing your motion events and delete your stored Ring tokens, which severs our access to your cameras and purges the data tied to the link, as described in our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, if your Ring subscription for the service ends, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the service is no longer commercially reasonable. Where practical and lawful, we will give you reasonable notice.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including acceptable-use restrictions, the not-a-security-system disclaimer, the limitation of liability, and any accrued payment obligations owed to Ring — survive after these Terms end.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of Wildlife Alert after an update takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms will be brought exclusively in the federal or state courts located in Los Angeles County, California.
